Can we have a thread about the largest and most powerful predator on the planet?
It's only recently that I realized 'wew, this thing was literally it. Think of any other predator, living or dead, on land or in the sea, and it was smaller than this thing.'
Megalodon was one hell of a thing and we only missed it by a few thousand years.

shastasaurus was on average as large as or larger than megalodon

whales are predators, they eat fish and crustaceans, plus they are larger than any shark that has ever existed (with the blue whale being the largest animal that has ever lived on Earth it is a given that it is larger than any other predator)

Also the only things that are larger and more powerful "predators" in history have been filter feeders, which don't count for obvious reasons.

The reasons are not so obvious to me.

Filter feeders aren't apex predators.
