I don't know if this is the right board for this, but does anyone know where I could buy amber with bugs inside?
I wanted to get a small piece of amber for my niece for Christmas, she's super into bugs but I have no idea how to find this shit without getting ripped off. I see mineral thread and other naturalist stuff so I think I'm in the right place. I'm in Canada as well so someplace that won't anally devastate me with shipping would be ideal.
Can anyone help me out?
Just get a house fly and put it in Jello then freeze it. Problem solved.

No idea bro...maybe at rural areas in countries where conifer forests are abundant. Maybe the locals have collected them.

Are you anywhere near New York? This weekend is the international gem and jewelry show at the Westchester County Center. There's bound to be a few dealers selling Amber with insects and you probably won't find cheaper prices anywhere except online where you can't actually pick the piece up and examine it. But expect to spend a mucho bucks if you want a piece like the Amber in John Hammond's cane.

Ripped off how? Most pieces of "amber" are resin fakes, yes, but random insects in resin can be bought quite cheaply.

>buy some resin online
>go catch an interesting bug in your backyard
>google or whatnot how to heat up the resin enough to pour it over the bug without damaging it
>???
>happy niece
Best part is, even if it turns out like utter shit, it's more than just a random gift. It's a lifelong skill you can teach your niece. The two of you can develop some genuine skill in the craft, and she can be proud of herself because she can do things that the average person can't.

just looking around a genuine is over $100
That's a really thoughtful gift OP. Your niece is lucky to have an uncle like you.
Regarding the big in amber, I have a feeling something like that would be quite rare and expensive unfortunately.
Etsy has some cheap options though, and they might be real amber. Sorry the link is so long, etsy has annoyingly long links.
