Was thinking of going back with a bit of chicken feed.

For some reason I didn't have any chicken feed on me during my bike ride. "I can go ride without chicken feed this one time" I said.

I'd take a picture and post it on 4Chan.

Just went back with some chicken seed, but there were two cameramen with lenses the size of a horse's head taking pics, so I assume the dude is in good hands.

Look at its legs to see if there are any bands (or "rings" as the yurops call them) on it.

The bands may be colored, or have numbers on them. Most zoos will have bands on their birds, as well as many birds from private collections. If you could do that, you could find out who it belonged to, perhaps by contacting EURING. If it is an escaped bird, and they recapture it, maybe you'll even get a reward.

If it isn't, well. Not much you can do.

Couldn't get any closer because I had my dog tied to my bike.

I guess that might be a ring above its leg joint.

But like I said, two camera guys were on the case, so that reward is out I guess.

I think that is a ring. The guys wiht camera's might just be birdspotters taking some pictures. The species is a grey crowned crane. those birds don't migrate, so it is almost certainly an escaped bird. maybe you can put up an add somewhere telling where you spotted it.
