Just got a kitten about a week ago and I wanted to wait a little and let her get acclimated before taking her to the vet. One of her littermates, who has had his first shot, is coming over tomorrow and I was wondering if it was safe to let them play together even though she hasn't had her first shot. Or should I take her in the morning before they play?

I wouldn't socialize any kitten that hasn't had shots..

I figured as much. So would it be okay for me to get the shots before they come over? Or will Cheese need some time for the vaccine to take effect? First time kitten owner here.

that's a good question to ask the vet!
since they've only been separated a week, it's really unlikely they'd have anything. I'd probably risk it if I knew the household the kitten was coming from and there were no outdoor kitties.

My main concern is, the other cat in that household (an older one, not the littermate) doesn't have it's shots because he got very sick when he got his first shots. I'm unsure if cats with their shots can be carriers or not, but I don't want the older cat to potentially give the kitten something that he would bring over to my kitten.

that should be fine so long as they're indoor only cats. it's pretty unlikely your kitten would catch anything, but if you're worried about it I'd hold off and talk to the vet first.

I'm gonna guess that your kitten is pretty young- kittens have to get vaccinated twice because the first one doesn't always take because of antibodies leftover from the mama cats milk. plus, young kittens can't get all the recommended vaccines, they usually just get the three way.

Both the cats from that house are indoor only so I'm super worried about them having something but I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to a live animal. I'm gonna head over to the vet first thing in the morning though, get the first shot, and see what the vet has to say.
