Sounds about right.

First of all don't throw cats together and expect friendship, you need to separate new cat to a different room for a bit, then introduce smells to your old cat like a blanket or such, in a few days take new cat to a different room where you can close him for maybe 10 min or so, and let old cat sniff around the room where new cat was living.

Watch some jackson? galaxy (whetever his name is forgot) my cat from hell, it will give you idea how to introduce cats and how to avoid fighting, little tricks here and there but it takes time
I took my time to introduce new kitten to my bully old cat and he accepted him without killing him

It's growth has been stunted too I believe it's a very small cat even though I know it's an adult
