People are trying to breed health back into pugs because it's too costly to take them to the vet when their eyes pop out. Same thing goes for german shepherds when their hips fail.

They probably won't change much, or improve.

Go to the OFA website and look at breed statistics. Hip dysplasia in many breeds is becoming less common because testing is available.

Encouraging people to buy puppies only from breeders that health test parent dogs and do sports with or work their animals will help even more.

Breeding those crippled GSDs is banned in the civilized world. So they will probably still be the best dogs in 100 years.

Yeah, "official" breed clubs and all will solve the problems by mixing in some healthier breeds (like malinois for the GSD) or abusing the fuck out of genetic tests, but BYBs will keep on producing poorly bred animals.

essentially the whole dog breed nonsense needs to go away. we already know what healthier than any breed in existence: mutts.

Jesus, don't talk about what you don't know about. The ridges are just hair running the opposite way down their back. Rhodesian ridgebacks are more prone to spinal disease but the ridge is not a spinal problem. It's just hair.

I was confusing this with some breed with a curly tail, where the curly tail is a slight curvature of the spine (which is specifically bred for)
