They are neither, but have more in common with animals taxonomically. The way we interact with them is somewhat the same as we do with plants.

Actually fungi have over 1000 genders and are neither Animal nor Plant. They have their own taxonomical Kingdom and are quite interesting. Most are heterotrophic sexual organisms, however, most species cannot breed together. In fact, it can take a very long time to distinguish two similar species and often takes a mycogeneticist to distinguish certain Fungi.
