does anybody know what caused this?

what kind of fish was it
what were your tank parameters
did you introduce anything new into the tank that may of given it a spike in ph or ammonia
Did your water temp rapidly change without you noticing is your heater if needed still working?
The white stuff could be ich which is generally brought out by stress from some area of husbandry being inadequately met

zero nitrate
No he was by himself and no to the ph or ammonia

The heater is still working and there was never really any temperature changes desu

alot of bettas end up killing themselves by eating everything thrown into their tank

Also how strong is the water flow in your tank if it had larger fins a strong flow could cause some issues with it not being able to rest

He got 4 floating pellets a day
And the water flow was really weak it was a cheap marina filter
