Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.

Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size
-parameters
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

>Hermit crabs are predators that hunt edition
Here's a shot of mine.
He was a predator.
He killed hundreds of fish.
Eventually he killed some expensive fish.
He died shortly after.
>>
>>2232930
I bought three about two months ago and only had one die so far. So I'd say at least a few months but all I heard when I got them was "Oh they won't live long so it's not worth it."
>>
>>2232936
Crabs are more like pests it seems when introduced to aquariums. I've learned to only get those micro-crabbies from now if at all for my CUC. Shrimp definitely seem like a better alternative.
>>

How big is your tank? You could always put your other snail(s) in a safe box ( you can get them pretty cheap for like $4-5 pic related ) while the assassin does the work. Then pull out the assassin and put your other one back in.

For all the hours of reading I've done on aquariums and how to handle them.. I know jack shit about actual fish. Is anyone else like this? Finding info about maintenance and stuff is easy but where do you go to just read about random fish? Browse Wikipedia or something?
>>
>>2233027
Same. I still don't actually know how much to feed each fish.
>>
>>2233027
Honestly I just google the fish. Most of the fish in the hobby require similar care so it's really not that difficult to take care of them. By now I recognize, and at least know the basics about nearly every common freshwater fish in the hobby.
>>
>>2233033
What fish do you have?
>>
>>2233033
I put a little pinch of fish food in my fully stocked 55 gallon about 4 times a week. they seem healthy enough.
>>
>>2233038
I have a 65g saltwater tank with 8 small-medium fish and numerous crabs, snails, anemones and stars.

I feed one small pinch once or twice a week. I've been doing that for over a year now, they're fat and healthy.
>>
>>2233046
Are anemones fairly easy to take care of for beginner reefers?
>>
>>2233053
no, they're difficult for even experienced reefers.

mine last about 3 years on average. Experts can get 10-20 years out of them. They can live over 100 years in the wild.
>>
>>2233038
>>2233035
I have 5 guppies, one mystery snail, 3 ghost shrimp, and 9 guppy fry. I've been doing a pinch a day, or a small crushed pellet per fish. Is that to
>>
>>2233075
Is that too much?***
>>
>>2233075
if they eat it all it's ok. you should skip at least one day a week.

I have no idea how much to feed fish, but it's always less than you think. they can go weeks without eating before they starve. it's much easier to overfeed than underfeed.

What are those white spots? Snail eggs? How can i get rid of them?
>>
>>2233256
Water lice maybe? Aqua fleas?
>>
>>2233053
It depends. Usually the desirable ones are. They are unpredictable. Any fluctuation in parameters can kill them, or not. Feed them is easy, and unless you have a huge tank, don't expect your corals to be 100% safe. They like to move around, and if they decide to move right next to you acropora coral, then the anemone will sting the coral to death.

They also might look like they're dying sometimes, but it's probably just taking a shit.
>>
>>2233272
it's odd that anemones are hard to keep, considering many of them live in intertidal zones.
>>
>>2233318
As I said, the desirable ones are hard to keep. Most of the intertidal species(at least in my area) are like aiptasia and will not die if a nuke was dropped on them and are terribly aggressive against most other organisms.
>>
>>2233256
do they move? could be planaria
>>
>>2233326
oh, okay. I only study local species so I know fuck all about what you keep in saltwater tanks.
>>
>>2233335
Yeah, most of the desirable anemones in the aquarium trade are very delicate reef species. Including a few native my reefs! However, if I were to go to my coastline, I'll find tons of types of anemones that can basically thrive in battery acid.

What area is it do you study? I can't identify most species, and I've searched thoroughly through a lot of sites to find certain species.
>>
>>2233262
>>2233329
They don't seem to be moving. I can scratch them off. It's so fucking ugly
>>
Man, why do most people barely do any research before buying an animal? /r/aquariums is full of idiots who buy animals before even having a tank setup for them. Some dude thought cycling for a day was enough. There was also a guy who thought his arowana had enough space because it had plenty of room to "turn around".

Pet stores should make new customers write a short quiz before buying any animal.
>>
>>2233410
It's not even just fish (although they are the ones with the most abuse for being considered expendable and easy as throwing the in water and calling it a day) but dumb shits ruin it for everyone else, their pets, and reputation of animals. See shitbulls, outdoor cats, social birds kept alone and locked in their cage, dumping turtles into any body of water because they got too big, etc.

There seriously needs to be some regulations against dumb shits buying any kind of animal at all.
>>
>>2233410
>Some dude thought cycling for a day was enough.
Maybe he's doing a fish-in cycle? Even so he should still wait a week at least.

>short quiz
They wouldn't make any money if they didn't let people buy whatever they wanted. Truth is not everyone cares about fish as much as other pets. They aren't intelligent and most are cheap and easily replaced. Can't blame people for mistreating fish when they're pretty fucking low on the food chain.
>>
>>2233437
>>2233442
Plus, it's not like these people harbor any ill will towards the pets. I mean if anything maybe you could call it negligence. Most people just don't care enough to do all the research so they do a half-assed job. Can't blame them. And you shouldn't get upset over it either.
>>
>>2233461
>can't blame people for not doing all the required research to be responsible of a creature that has just as much as a right to live as you do for the rest of its life

I think you can only lead by example. While I do think some US trade laws could be changed (not advertising bowls for goldfish, bettas etc) it's mostly up to the consumer to educate himself and via the internet it becomes so easy to meet people that are into the hobby and rely on actual experiences.

That being said, some corporations like petco/petsmart may wanna change their policy in terms of aquatic livestock. .

I'm from Germany, here we got Fressnapf, which is basically a european Petco, but the difference is that all the personell is well trained and instead of scolding people for making 'dumb choices' or just selling whatever, they try to be constructive. Like listing the benefits for an easier to keep species for a beginner, explaining equipment and if said equipment is even necessary for the hobbyist in question etc..

Instead of making a quick buck, they want customers as regulars that appreciate their input, so they do a whole lot to help out beginners circumventing mis-steps without being too intrusive.

In my experience, people that are encouraged in such a positive way, are less likely to neglect their pets. Of course that can't prevent neglect 100% but I think instead of frowning upon beginners making mistakes or doing silly choices in terms of stocking, decoration etc. one can invest it's energy much better.

Pic only vaguely related, one of my new sparkling gouramis - sadly he is a bit shy as of yet.

There it is. It's not at it's best, I'll start working on it when I have the time. There's no fish in it, cuz all of them died of a fluke infestation. Now there's nothing but shrimp in there. The breeder box is full of of chaeto and amphipods and a sexy shrimp.

There're 2 other shrimp which includes a skunk shrimp and a peppermin shrimp. There's a fuck ton of serpent stars both collected and bought, and a few corals. So there. That's my reef. So now 4chan has seen all my 3 aquariums.

Also, you can see the thread through the tank's reflection.

>>
>>2233595
1. Yes it is a lot of coraline and algae, but I've not had to time to be thorough with the tank.
2. The fluke infestation was "taken care of" with a freshwater dip. But the fucking royal gramma had to stress out the dartfish till it came back and killed them both.

>>

>walk into a new friend's house

>>
>>2233602
I do respect animals. But your post made you sound like some vegetarian militant who would save a snail over a person. I think anything should have a chance to live but I'm not going to lose sleep over a dead animal. Maybe once they can hold an intelligent conversation with me I'll reconsider my opinions.
>>
>>2233337
I live right next to an estuary. my school is pretty passionate about its shellfish, heh.
>>
>>2233614
I'm not a vegetarian. I'm not an animal rights militant. I'm not even a supporter of PETA. I just think if you're going to take responsibility over the rest of an animal's life, then you should give it the best living conditions as possible in captivity and to do so requires doing your research.

I don't lose sleep over dead animals that were killed for a reason. I've killed animals myself. I just think it's a useless waste of life to just have an animal die prematurely because of a lack of responsibility.

Animals have helped mankind achieve so much and we wouldn't be where we are today without them. They have done all of this without saying a single word. Whether or not an organism can have a conversation with you shouldn't matter in the slightest.
>>
>>2233622
>best living conditions as possible
That differs from person to person. Obviously your best possible condition for an animal is probably leagues above someone else's. It's fine that you have a high opinion on animals, but you have no right to look down on other people who think less of them. It's fine that you get all warm and fuzzy when you look at fish, but some people just keep them an entertainment. Before arguing about shit like this maybe you should take a look inside yourself and reflect on why your opinion is better or more righteous than others.

they don't -need- cuttlebone, it's just a good source of calcium.

Ok.

A couple of threads back, I posted about my red betta and his swollen tummy. Treated for constipation (fasting/peas). After no improvement, moved to qt tank and treated for internal parasites. No improvement. He eventually passed.

Fast forward. My blue delta is starting to get a little swollen and I am freaking out. I have him in a qt tank (different one than the red one was in).

What is going on?! I've been doing 100% water changes every 3 days (qt tank is 1 gal, bare bottom). Was I correct in thinking red fish had internal parasites? Is it contagious? What else could cause a swollen abdomen besides constipation and parasites. I want to save my blue fish so I'm trying to catch it earlier than red.

Just got my assassin snail, had to give my address and phone number for a snail. Wouldn't mind but the shop sells goldfish to kids with 1 gallon tanks.

Also how would you add it to a tank, same as a new fish or are they a bit easier?
>>
>>2234096
Well, when I first realized constipation treatment wasn't working, I put red in bare bottom 1 gal. His poop was white and stringy. I didn't see it on the link you posted, but is that also a symptom of dropsy? Also, no pinecone.
>>
Is it normal for male guppies to lie on the bottom of a tank in between some rocks and just stay there listlessly for several minutes? I saw him and figured oh well, he's dead. But then this dude shot up and is swimming normally chasing ladies and being totally ok. I'd he going to die or is it just a regular thing?
>>
>>2234191
I see him rubbing on shit now. Like tryina scratch he self.
>>
>>2234196
He's sick. Scratching on his surroundings means he's trying to get rid of a parasite(normal behavior for most animals like us), and the fish isn't probably getting enough oxygen because parasite. Your gup might be sick.

Look for
>small white dots
>a yawning or gasping motion
>clamped pectoral fins
If this becomes more apparent, immediately treat the tank.

Just watch your guppy.

white stringy poop doesn't really mean anything, it could be internal parasites, diet, or a bacterial infection. dropsy itself is a symptom, not a disease. the site I linked also has amounts of epsom or marine salts- I would add that to your tank, it's good for him regardless of what he has.

if it was more than .25ppm then your fish will be stressed. do you have a strong water current?

it could be as simple as the water current. guppies like calm water so I've noticed mine will rest more in the tank with a strong current.

Just saw this thread is already a thing after making a new thread just for this question...

Anyways, tank with a bunch of hungry top dwellers, bottom feeders can't get food unless I overfeed, fire eel isn't a problem, he likes being fed by hand and gets all cuddly and shit

any tips?
>>
>>2234514
It's okay as the fire eel gets very long. It will eat the rest of your fish and needs a bigger tank.
>>
>>2234514
Feed as much as you want/need to.

Just siphon the left overs as soon as you can.
>>
>>2234514
I'd recommend maybe using two different types of food or a fast sinking food. It really depends on what you're feeding now. I'd also just like to warn about fire eels having nasty bites when they get medium/ largish.

remove that eel in time, before its too big, besides that, the rainbows and the gouramis may fight if they grow up but that's not as bad as the eel.

As for your question, use big sinking pellets for your loaches. also cooked zucchini or cucumber works.

So my water sprite is getting dark leaves and splotches. Looking at the infographic, it looks like nitrogen deficiency. How does one address this in the aquarium. Reading about it it looks like the plant uses the ammonia in the tank and converts it to nitrogen. I've been doing very frequent water changes to keep the ammonia down. How then does one keep enough ammonia in the tank to benefit the plant while not harming the fish?
>>
>>2234866
How big is your tank, how long has it been running for, etc..

By doing frequent water changes you're also removing nutrients that the plants need to grow. Doing it too often isn't always good. Do you have any type of filter? You shouldn't be having a problem with ammonia if you have an older tank. It should be a problem with nitrates if anything.
>>
>>2234866
plants don't use ammonia, they use nitrate. nitrate is much, much much less toxic for fish.

not sure how you figured it was nitrogen deficiency- it turns your plants yellow. dark splotches sounds more like your plant is adjusting to new lighting or water- water sprite is very sensitive. trim off any dead parts.

Brings back good memories when I had a breeding pair before the male killed the female and then died himself a year or so later.
>>
>>2234950
Probably did. You're supposed to use feeder fish for fish in cycle you nigger.
>>
>>2234937
It also adds things your plants need.
>>
>>2234989
Thanks I was actually curious what species they were. The smaller one has a lot less black.. Still haven't seen it in almost two hours. The bigger one was sort of aggressive towards it, but they were both in the same tank when I bought them in the LFS. Dunno. I don't know shit about cichlids. They seem like fun fish though if they're all as active as this guy. He follows me to whichever side of the tank I go to.
>>
>>2235015
It adds trace minerals, yes. You're better off dosing those than doing frequent water changes. You're removing more good things than you're putting back in by doing frequent water changes.
>>
As someone whose never managed a planted tank and only aquarium experience is with a large, unplanted turtle tank with some fish cohabitants, how difficult is it setting up a shrimp bowl?

And if it's feasible say, use it to breed ghost shrimp? It's more of a hypothetical, I was considering to set one up so I can get a population of shrimp to use for clean up/occasional snack for the turtle tank.
>>
>>2235043
Yes
>>
>>2235022
>buying a fish without any knowledge about it
Even though they're just for the cycling, why would you do that? Why not not just get $.50 rosy reds or some shit?
>>
>>2235061
I've done lots of research on how to manage both FW and SW aquariums. I understand their workings and what needs to be done most of the time. However I've never taken the time to read about fish. Learning about how to get stuff working and how it works is pretty straightforward. But when it comes to all the thousands of fish species and sub-species it's kind of overwhelming. Like where do you even start? Just by browsing random websites that sell fish? Just how it is I guess. I buy what looks cool. If it dies it dies. I'll learn as I go. It was $5 for both of them. Not like I'm stupid enough to go buy a $30 fish.
>>
>>2234939
>plants don't use ammonia, they use nitrate.
Plants will use either, but will use ammonia first if given a choice.
>>
>>2235043
Shrimp bowls are easy as long as you get low-maintenance plants.
Cherry shrimp are much easier to breed than ghosts, but they might be too small to use as turtle food, and even with cherries I haven't had much luck getting them to breed in tanks smaller than five gallons.
>>
>>2235068
Convicts can get big and mean, you should have gotten a platy or molly for cycling or some guppies.

Do your research beforehand - look up multiple caresheets, ask owners of said fish online or irl - saves you lots of money and trouble.

That being said, many cichlids are full of personality.

Biggest factors for cichlids are aggression, filtration and size/space.

Read up on your convict bros and see if you are ready to provide for them in the future.

It would be no shame if you had to rehome them.
>>
>>2235043
Shrimp bowls are suboptimal if you want breeding - you could get a 5-10 gal, some javamoss, small grain substrate, driftwood, leaflitter, a sponge filter and maybe some driftwood, get some cherries or other neocaridina (more productive than ghosts) and with 20 shrimp, you should have about 50 after 4 months if not more.

Bowls - try to get at least a 5g bowl, tie some javamoss around a big lavarock and use sand as substrate - use lots of moss for optimal biofiltration.

A small desklight would help.

Keep in mind that shrimp would appreciate surface agitation from.some sort of filter or air pump.

>>

>>
>>2235097
I see what you mean about them being aggressive. Turns out the little guy did get sucked into the overflow. He was trapped in the filter sock on the end pipe in the sump. He's fine but immediately started getting bullied again by the bigger guy. I'll do some reading on convicts and cichlids in general. Maybe he just needs someone his own size to put him in his place.
>>
>>2235110
What's the other one look like? The convict you posted was a female. A male usually has just basic black and white stripes.
>>
>>2234619

Probably Lombre, seems like a chill buddy.
>>
>>2235113
It's more elongated than it is wide like the one I posted. More clear than black. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture before it was bullied into the rocks. Haven't seen it since. Hope it doesn't get stuck and die in there. Will be a pain to mess around and find it.
>>
>>2235070
Source? Plants uptake ammonium, not ammonia as far as I know.
>>
>>2235097
Convicts are little mother fuckers but i love them, I have a 6 female sorority and they are pretty fun to watch, they bully each other a lot but with convicts being the hardiest fish in my opinion nothing bad comes from it, just doing what they do.
>>
Where can I look at aquariums in peace? Everytime I go to a pet shop every 5 minutes some clerk comes to me to ask if I need anything. I swear they hate spectators with a passion. I already thought about biting that bullet and to just buy one but that would mean the jews won with their strategy.
>>

People are always trying to get rid of tanks. I even saw a couple threads back where an anon found a perfectly 40 gallon in the Petco dumpster. Use existing furniture as a stand. I'm using a credenza for my mudskipper and reef, and a tv stand for my planted. Do whatever with lights, and there's always diy projects from Uarujoey(king of DIY). You can get all your fish and plants from local water ways, and leave tap water out in a bucket for a day before doing waterchanges.
>>
>>2235436
excel shouldn't kill off your good bacteria. it's a product many people like and recommend, so if it caused tanks to crash people wouldn't use it so often.

all those critters you listed sounds like friends, I love having a tank that isn't sterile.

patience is key in this hobby!

Greetings /aq/,

Anyone ever try a micro aquarium?

I have a one gallon fish bowl and it's currently empty and sitting on my desk

I want to add a small layer of sand, enough to fill the dip in the bottom

What I'm trying to do is go very minimalistic with this "tank" and not add much to the tank because I want there to be lots of room, even though it's a gallon

I don't want to have just one fish that fits the bowl, I'm trying to avoid that caged in feeling

I want the fish(s) I put in there to feel like they have a ton of space

The smallest fish I can think of is a tetra but even those grow a bit too large so I couldn't have more than one

A pack of ghost shrimp might be alright if they don't get too big

Ideas?

>tl;dr I'm trying to fit as many small fish into a gallon while still giving them plenty of space

I know my options are probably limited
>>
>>2235459
If the time comes and you still want it sure, just give me an email. Why should I not do it if I have never done one before? It's not as if i wont have towns to rest or stay if needed, and I have plenty of time to prepare. The allure of having no responsibilities, with my only cares being when to eat and attention to my surroundings is inexorably enticing. It's only a matter of preparation and research. I am fit enough to complete this, and if something happens and I don't make it, It's still better than living life as Phil from groundhog day.

You don't understand anon, let me explain. I interact with people everyday and the only time I am by myself is at home. I have friends that I talk to daily and co workers that I got out to eat with regularly. I cherish my solitude when I have it and is part of my reason for wanting to go. I do not make enough money to escape my current life situation, only enough to perpetuate it. I feel this is an opportunity to reset and frankly, I'm tired of my current life, not the people in it, just the routine. I want to know what the other side is like, without a life of material goods and bills and everything and needs and wants of the average person. I want to take everyday as a new one, and that is hard when you can predict everything your day will entail. It's the monotony anon. I know everything won't be peachy, I am not foolish enough to think it will be some great life experience with sunshine and roses, but it WILL be different and it WILL force me to adapt and grow as a person. Have you never considering dropping everything and taking a different path? Surely I am not the only one.

Smallest fish commonly traded fish would be boraras brigittae or the like - yet the prefer bigger shoals amd shouldnt be kept under 5-10 gal - I personally wouldn't keep them under 10 gal.

Here's why fish are a bad idea in a small bowl:

Low water volume - will get dirty fast with fish bioload - unstable parameters

Bad Surface Agitation or none at all due two round top - bad gas exchange - stagnant water with low oxygen - many fish need some sort of oxygen in the water

Swimming space - many smaller fish are actually avid swimmers - certain bettas being the exception, but even I wouldnt keep a betta in anything smaller than 5gal because they are messy eaters and have a high bioload

So this leaves you with inverts - get like 5-10 neocaridina shrimp like cherries, 1-2 ramshorn snails, lots of moss/hornwort, small piece of rock/wood and some sand substrate and you should be golden.

Sounds great, maybe even a little too much, do inverts require an air supply? Or can I just leave the bowl without anything attached? I can do some partial water changes biweekly if needed.

I'm currently wondering what to stock my 75 with and I was thinking goldfish but the info varies all over the place. I want at least 3 of them so they don't get lonely.

The fancy double-tails appear to require 20g per fish, but what about the larger ones? Some guys say 55g then + 5g per fish. Some dude even said 100g per fish.. And other people say they outright belong in ponds.

What do
>>
OK so I've just picked up a co2 setup. Only problem is where to inject it? Tossing up between just whacking it on the filter inlet (eheim 2028l) and making a reactor. Only downside with the reactor is that I'm running out of room in my cabinet, as I already have an external heater setup, the filter, and will have the co2 bottle. Anyone run co2 straight into inlets?
>>
>>2235619
I'll be honest, for me, goldfish are better suited for a pond setup, since they are quite messy and are coldwater fish.

That being said, if you talk the big, regular goldies, I'd say 55g for the first, 20 for every further one - overfilter the tank heavily and you should be fine.

I think getting SAE for algae is no problem - if your tank is big enough and you can support a big enough group of say 4-6 since they can become aggressive if they cant handle hierarchy amongst themselves.

I really fell in love with sparkling gouramis after I bought two of these guys last weekend. They are a bit shy at first but display a wide array of colours, depending how the light hits them, no matter if female or male. Also great for smaller tanks since they only get like 1.5"

Pic is him in the shade.
>>
>>2235943
I wanted to get a dwarf gourami but now I might get a sparkling. Really pretty. How are they in community tanks? Would you be able to comfortable house a pair in a 20g long?
>>
>>2235947
I'd say sparklings are basically the smaller cousin of dwarfs, just with more personality, since they croak, which sounds more like a woodpecker in the distance when they are excited or wanna lure in a mate/scare off a rival.

There are often said to be aggressive but that only happens when they are breeding and they can't break line of sight with other fish and these guys are no bettas or convicts. The worst they do is croak.

As far as community goes - if you wanna breed these guys, like many other fish, they prefer a species only tank. If you just wanna keep them, a community is no problem, just make sure you don't have any super big fish in there, that may intimidate them. I keep them with dwarf cories and chili rasboras, so no problem there.

Allow them to break line of sight via plants and hardscape and you shoild be fine. I plan on keeping 4 in my 13.5gal, so I'm sure you could get away with 6 if your tank is structured well.

They don't like dry food that much, but I feed frozen cyclops and bloodworms aswell so they get their fair share.

As a thing of note, there's three almost identical species of sparkling/croaking gouramis, so check at your store what they label them as or ask them.

Trichopsis Pumila - the ones I got
The smallest, both 1.5 inches at max, both sexes croak

Trichopsis Schalleri
Medium size, like 1.75-2.25 inches, only males croak

Trichopsis Vittata
Big size, 2-3 inches, only males croak, females are less colourful
>>
>>2235947
Also, they are not a fish that's always at the forefront of the tank, especially in the first few days but they at least show 3-4 times a day for me, doing their rounds, checking the leaves and moss for food.
>>
>>2235982
Thanks man, this is some really good info. Are they hardier than dwarfs? I read somewhere that pretty much all dwarf gouramis have a disease that gets triggered with minimal stress and kills them within 6 months.
>>

From what I researched, since they are less in demand and bred to death, they are way hardier. Of course I just had guys for less than a week but the guy that owns the store that sells them also breeds them himself, and he said, as far as small gouramis go, these are one of the hardiest. Only thing I would check is that your PH is in the 7 range, since they prefer slightly acidic to neutral waters.

If you wanna read more into detail about these guys, check publications of Dr. Jörg Vierke if you can find a translated source. He was one of the most renowned Ichtyologists when it comes to anabantoids.
>>
>>2236002
That arowana alone could be a small car. Don't be a shit and kill you're parent's fish with such a weak egotistic motive.

What would you wanna keep in a 500g anyway if not these big fish? If you are new and wanted to turn this thing into a reef or a big planted tank, you'd set yourself up for failure without years of research and experience.
>>
>>2236024
Silver Arowana are $45 on average here. 1 foot Ionger and they are only $100.
>>
>>2236027
My bad, was confusing him with his asian colleague, nonetheless -killing these fish would be a bitch-move only an entitled brat would pull off. If you'd want to be taken seriously you'd maybe do research and start on a smaller tank, till the fish in your parent's tank die. /aq/ can surely help you out with suggestions.
>>
>>2236027
And the price rises as they get bigger/older.
>>2236002
I forgot to ask, why do you want your parent's tank? Most of us on 4chan aren't financially capable(among other things) of taking care and maintaining a 500 gallon, so we don't think about these tanks much. And our older members that can will just do it if they so please.

Only a person who'd be immature as to try this would be someone underage who still has big dreams. They're parents giving their child an excuse like this is someone not knowledgeable about the subject that can actually perform such a task is someone with less general experience. And sacrificing precious objects including not just living animals, but expensive ones at that for their own benefit is someone who is young and selfish.

You want you're parent's aquarium, it's not yours but you want it.
They give you the task stating, you kill our fish, it's your
You don't know how to kill it, so you go on an imageboard that's been known for edgy content to ask for a solution because edgy people know how to do edgy things
We're not giving you answers.

You're not going out buying one, or building one yourself. And you have no experience on how to kill the fish. You didn't even give us a run down on what you'd like to do with the tank.

All my words have led me to the conclusion that you're an underage asshat that just want a huge fucking tank with no knowledge on keeping said tank. You are a huge whining little brat, and this is coming out of a tripfag, mind you.

You need to get out of this website completely, learn how to fucking keep a fish tank, learn from your mummy & daddy, and come back when you're 18 and post results. We'll most likely still be here. Take care.

I think even if its not a fuck expensive asian arowana, it's a big fish with lots of personality as far as fish go. Of course it's 'just' a fish but that shouldnt be an argument. >>
>>2236078
What fish you wanna keep in that 500g then? I'm not condescending.

I have about 10yrs of experience in the hobby and thats just experience I would count from 'serious' fishkeeping, so I don't really count tanks I had as a kid.

I do not that you are dedicated to get new fish but the options for a 500g are mostly fish that can't be handled by most beginners because they are either very sensitive, aggressive, messy, big or all of the 4 combined.

If you havent already, maybe take a look at monsterfishkeepers.com - no matter if you wanna keep big fish or just a big tank with medium fish - these guys specialize in both and are most likely better suited/equipped for your enquiries.

I'm german if that somehow qualifies my post as being worthy.

Just google if you so desire. You are basically doing a weak metabait right now and asking you for the fish you'd wish to euthanize, would be pointless since you couldnt even provide pictures for them.

Here's my rundown:

You want Attention so you create that edgy story about that brat character wanting the 500g of your parents. You get called out, among other things from mud, who somehow pissed you off earlier so you had your fake trips laying around to stirr shit and did some weak shitposts with a fake-trip a la 2009.

Then you tried you trump card:
You went in with another character, your 'I dunno if its the brat asking for fish to euthanize under a guise, but maybe it comes off like a legit post so people may reply'- schtick to get some reactions.

People call you out again and you will prolly follow with more shitposting.

You cant provide photos of your parents 500g tank and even wrote yourself into a corner with that stocking list so getting pics via google image search wont help.

You will get called out again and be frustrated, going to bed with the knowledge that you are some noname dipshit on some small aquarium section on the internet that got a buncha replies, but not what you were asking for. Even if your parents have a 500gal, your story has more holes than spirograph stencil made out of swiss cheese that got hit by grenade shrapnel. I rest my case.

The method for a most painless death is often not found in households but is easy to come by, but the time it takes to shop for it, would mean your fish are most likely dead when you come back with it.
The swiftest and most painless death, as brutal as it sounds, would be to crush their heads/cut their cerebral chord - many people cant bear to do it.

Freezing is very painful, any acidic or basic solution in the water is aswell, so maybe just do a big waterchange beforeb they die maybe they get better or but them into a quarantine tank.

After watching another video on hatching brine shrimp I decided to give them a try before putting more effort into the invert only tank idea

I assembled the hatchery as seen in the video with light included but I don't have any rigid air line tubing

I've watched two videos and both of them don't use a mineral stone

Can I just use my regular air supply with mineral stone?
Or will the mineral stone mess up the hatching process some how?

Since the brine shrimp are somewhat expendable I plan on using the air stone for ease but if they fail to hatch with the air stone, I'll have to go out and buy some rigid air tubing
