I always see cats as female at first. And dogs as male. Must have been because of some cartoon I saw when I was a baby.

Wasps I always refer to as "she"; spiders too. At least with some insects and arachnids you can actually tell the difference between sexes.

Most people think my dog is a girl. Not sure why; maybe his shiny coat, maybe is smile, maybe his color?

He does squat to pee, but most people we meet on the street haven't seen him pee.

I just let it go. Who cares if anyone thinks my dog is a girl? I'm never gonna see them again and the dog certainly doesn't give a shit.

The way I do it, it follows my native language. In portguese everything "has a gender", even chair, car, etc. So, dog is male (cachorro), giraffe is female (girafa), gazelle is female (gazela), etc.
