I love blackbirds
post blackbirds
(my girlfriends name translates to blackbird :^) )
best european bird reporting in.
red winged black birb photo i took earlier this year. they're funny. they like to harass the other birbs in the area.
More like BLACKEDbird.
>>2221993
I really wish there were magpies in my area. They seem like cool birds.
>>2222018
they're assholes.
>>2222018
No you don't. Swooping season is a bitch.
>>2222029
>Swooping season
eurosian magpies don't do that.
>>2221985
Your girlfriend sounds like either a hipster or a witch.
>>2222264
uh no, that is just a normal name here in holland
>>2222029
aussie doesnt know about real magpies kek
eurasian magpies avoid humans, dont cause shit, just want to live their life in peace and eat baby birds
>>2222774
>eurasian magpies avoid humans
what?
they're almost as cheeky as robins.
>>2221985

someone got the version where there is a blackbird chiping in the background?
>>2222807
I mean like the ones i live near doesn't let a walking human closer than 10m
sure they nest and live near human setlements but avoid conflicts and are cauious to the max
but not to dogs they yell at dogs going too close to their trashcans
>>2222851
they're pretty docile here, I fed them mole babies by hand once.
>>2222868
How do you get moles Bugsy? I don't rodents at all except for squirrels and an occasional rat near the coast
>>2222885
I don't get any in my own garden, but they pop up in some of the larger lawns my company maintains sometimes.
caught a bunch of them last week, the young moles start to claimterritory around this time.
>>2222868
that's awesome
I only got to interect one kept at a zoo, it seemed very lonely, locked together with dumb birds like phesants and chicken, it came to the wire to play with kids, and took an insect from me when I offered
>>2222921
it's a big issue here, all sorts of birds are getting more and more used to having human activity around them, so you can imagine they end up causing trouble due to it.
for example there's fucktons of grey herons hovering around all day eating all the goldfish from ponds.
>>2222930
>goldfish slayers
how does one even defend against that?
>>2222933
they hang this shit around their pond.
>>2222936
this is the weirdest fucking thing
>>2222485
Sounds like a nice name.
>>2222936
Is this some bird psychology innovation?
>>2222264
Merel, common name in the Netherlands. I don't like blackbirds btw, they destroy all the fucking moss in my garden looking for something to eat.
In my country we call them »solsort« which means »sun-black«. Kinda weird
>>2223496
supposingly it makes them feel like they're being watched by a predator.
not sure if it actually works, herons don't have any predators here anyway, there's been a fucking lot of them lately.
>>2221985
What's your girlfriend's name?
>>2224780
Nevermind I'm fucking stupid
Every year, every damn spring one male blackbird would appear in the apple tree in our backyard. Probably the same bird every time. It did nothing but sit there and stare at me with its beady eyes. Sometimes it would sing sadly. Never saw other blackbirds around. I think it was lonely.
>>2221985
Merel?
>>2224817
i think it's Deutsch
>>2225258
In german its Amsel actually. Funny thing is, that in old german, Amsala meant bird, in general, but since blackbirds were so common, people attached Amsel as a name to the bird in particular and it stuck
>>2225269
why do german names always sound so jewish?
>>2225271
Yiddish burrows heavily from german. When I hear people speaking I can understand it almost as well as dutch.
It is plausible that the Amschel in Mayer Amschel Rothschild had the meaning of Amsel/Amsala aka bird.
>>2225277
can you understand frisian?
names like Bejamin, Christroph, Daniela, Daniel, Eduard, Franz, Gabriel, Irene, Judith, Karen, Ludolf, Manuel, Petra have always been a boner-kill for me, they instantly make you suspicious.
>>2225282
Isnt frisian basically plattdeutsch? If so yes.
>>2225309
it sounds like a mix of german and english.
the dutch can't understand frisian.
>>2224706
you danes call butterflies "summer birds" too right? (in dutch we do sometimes)
>>2225309
yes it is basicallt platt. There is not linguistic reason as to why Frisian is concidered a different language, it is just as distant as any other dialect on the border
>>2225311
>the dutch can't understand frisian.
we can
>>2225357
>There is not linguistic reason as to why Frisian is concidered a different language
there's no reason why dutch isn't just considered a low germanic dialect either, I can tell you're from limburg.
>we can
no you can't, you look like you're taking a shit in confusion every time you hear a frisian word.
bûter, brea en griene tsiis ;')
>>2225360
>there's no reason why dutch isn't just considered a low germanic dialect either,
Dutch is a frankish language, not a low germanic (nedersaksies) one. But you are right in saying that dutch could definitely be considered a german dialect of sorts.
>I can tell you're from limburg
You are wrong, Overijssel.
>no you can't, you look like you're taking a shit in confusion every time you hear a frisian word.
Frisian is in no way harder to understand than west-vlaams, limburgs, west-fries, tilburgs etc. I can definitely understand 70 to 90 % of what you guys are saying
the only reason frisians get the special snowflake status is because they kept on nagging about it.
>>2225364
>Dutch is a frankish language
what do you mean?, most of the netherlands speaks a dialect of low saxon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Low_Saxon
>Frisian is in no way harder to understand than west-vlaams, limburgs, west-fries, tilburgs etc
have you actually talked to frisian farmers or just to city folks pretending they're frisian?
>because they kept on nagging about it.
don't forget we owned this place.
>>2225370

>>2225383
Ga dit soort grappen over Friesland of Limburg maken.
>>2225386
>>2225386
>links stemmen
friezen stemmen rechts maat.
>>2225391
Ja zo kun je het ook wel zien
>>2225392
>mijd keurig al mijn punten op één na

uh ok back to birds
@2225396
turns out to be a troll
>>2225393
Pls stop speaking Korean.

>>2225481
ben je nieuw ofzo.
>>2225487
Burger me in
back to birdies
>>2225890
atleast post the vlaamse gaai.
>Common Blackbird
>It's actually a thrush, not a blackbird
Who names this shit?
>>2226162
common names are given to animals by commoners, hence why they don't make sense.
