What's your opinion on lawns?
Are they a waste of water, time, or money for pointless ideal and homogeneity?
>>
>>2215922
They're visually pretty nice, although personally I think at least some wild overgrown grass should be left. Not sure how a lawn is a waste of money though, all you have to do is mow it regularly?
>>
>>2215922

What else could my dogs play on?

anyone that thinks they're pointless has clearly never taken a nap on one.

large lawns are an insult to gardening space though.

artificial grass looks fake and ugly no matter how high the quality is, and it costs 50$+ per square metre.

a small lawn would set you back about 2k.

Nice would love to see some cats eating birds on that

So what you're saying is that
1.) you have barbed wire fence because you're afraid of the rapefugees but still want them in
2.) too poor even to do anything with that small space
3.) you support everything merkel does

yeah most people outside of the city own atleast 2 acres, I think 4 is about the average.

depending on your soil you could just dig out a massive pond, I used to have one with a small quay, had all sorts of animals living around it like kingfishers and a massive school of Leuciscus idus melanotus.

I mow about 7 acres a week, plus all the roadsides. I don't mind the work I'm just riding around on my old ass tractor drinking beer. When it's done everything looks nice and smells nice.
Just last week I counted 80+ killdeer in my side yard, it was pretty peaceful watching them. If my grass was a foot tall they wouldn't flock there. Usually I have a big softball game for my kids bday party, I couldn't do that without a big lawn. The main reason is pride in ownership, everything looks so much better when it's mowed down and clean.

I use a Shibaura CM214 for work, just sold it though, needed something that wasn't as bulky because my company does the maintenance of 100+ lawns in some vacation parks, it couldn't fit through fences.

my new mower is a 94 cm wide professional Husqvarna, there's only 2 of them in the country.
>>
>>2216249
>couldn't fit through fences
>that wasn't as bulky
I know what you mean, a 6' deck is nice on wide open spaces, but sucks around trees. I will eventually get a zeroturn and retire my tractor, but for now it works.
>>
>>2216257
zeroturns aren't much better, they're decent around trees but they're shit in sharper corners so you'll have to do those with a weedwacker instead, with a deck in the front you can just place your deck in the corner, reverse a bit and turn.

I tried one out yesterday, I hate not being able to see the mowing deck, and most of them are weak as fuck, they'll die if you hit a rock or a branch.
>>
>>2216261
The only tight spots are next to the house, I use a push mower there because it's easier and looks better.
Thanks for the tip.

the machine I used to have (Shibaura CM214) is probably what you're looking for, they're relatively fast and powerful enough (21-25 HP diesel) to cut even the tallest grass, trees shouldn't be a problem either since you don't have to shift gears on it so you can reverse it freely, and the steering is hydraulic so you don't have to bust a nut steering it either.

they're pretty expensive though.

you can't steer zeroturns with 1 hand, and they're usually mulchers so they're slow as fuck and you need to watch out with the length of the grass otherwise it'll look like shit or the engine gives in.

if all hope is lost you could always just buy a semi-professional push mower and wear rollerskates behind it.
>>
>>2216265
>if all hope is lost you could always just buy a semi-professional push mower and wear rollerskates behind it.
Kek.
It's still a few years out so I'll have plenty of time to look for a deal. In the meantime I'll continue to use my woods mower. Everytime I drag that heavy bitch, my yard gets a little flatter.
>>
>>2216281
>Everytime I drag that heavy bitch, my yard gets a little flatter.
modern lawns are bumpy as fuck due to the robot mower fad.

what people don't understand is that these brainless machines bump over the same holes day on end and create hills everywhere so their lawn ends up looking like a golf course.

no.
>>
>>2216323
On the other hand it saves 100% of the water and antiweed herbicides you would have had to use in those 5 years. I wonder what the research numbers have to say about its environmental effect though.
>>
>>2216329

at least water is a renewable resource and most commercially available pesticides have a fairly short lifespan before they become inert. don't get me wrong there's plenty of things that aren't good about traditional lawns, but i highly doubt putting down sheets of fancy plastic is in any measure better.

We used to reserve a 4x4 patch of grass on our property because it had a rabbits nest that would be used every year and police came to our door and told us if we didn't mow it we would be fined.

Why the hell would they care? It wasn't some upscale neighborhood. Neighbors weren't very close to us. No venomous snakes or anything. It was only like a foot. I'm still mad about that. As a kid we would leave for a month on vacation and our backyard would just go wild and it was fun as fuck because it was like a jungle(had a neighbor do our front lawn). Id love to let most of my yard grow crazy and plant a bunch of high plants but I live much closer to people and itd just look trashy.
>>
>>2216479
snip off the part connecting them and plant the little plantlets.. the seeds will probably get eaten if you have fish so I'd try sprouting them out of the tank.
>>
>>2216479
if your fish aren't eating them leave them be, it gives a natural look to the plant.

I'm only familiar with hardy pond plants, not aquarium plants.

>Why the hell would they care?
to set an example, if they allow one person to let their garden grow wild the others will start complaining.

It's not an offense in the United States. Only if you live in some weird fuck housing development division or forced to join the shittiest organization knows as HOA and forced to pay fees. Even then it isn't law.

Lots of city ordinances prohibit you from letting your grass grow out and shitting up the place. HOA's are not the only people who expect you to not live like a pig.
