Hello /an/, I have a 7 year old female cat that I just adopted a few months ago. She seemed abused so I tried to make her comfortable as possible but she still doesnt like being petted or picked up and/or moved for a second. Like I let her pet herself by holding my hand out and she rubs her face against it.. she just meows a ton but even for a second trying to pet her back she turns her meow into a growl. Out of all this, for some reason she gets on my chest to lay down but still won't let me touch her etc. So how or what can I do to to fix this issue? I feel bad cause they were gonna put her down at the humane society so I scooped her up.

Give her more time to warm up to you. Depending on the severity of her abuse, it could take her a longer time to recover. Just avoid approaching her directly and always let her come to you, maybe even invest in a toy to play with her.

The funny part was today I ended up playing with her by doing the old trick of putting the hand under the covers and moved around and she loved it. I kinda always make sure that the front of my body isnt facing her whenever I approach her. You can tell how much she's been abused.. emotionally wise. I make sure she never is in contact with my other cats, she is the only one in my bedroom at all times. I'm just worried that she'll end up being broken forever. I've already avoiding towering her since I know cats hate it. I wish I could read cats minds.

Pick up some treats (my cat loves Temptations) and give her as many as she'll eat. She'll learn to associate being on/near you is a positive thing.
Some cats just aren't snuggly, she might be one of those. Good on you for taking in an unwanted cat!

This. My male cat is incredibly snuggly, like he has to be between myself and my wife when we are sleeping. The female cat, however, will lay down and knead, but any sudden movements and she bolts. Just their different personalities.

This. We picked up some kitten that was being abused by kids. Trying to shove things in her vagina and what not. I took it from them and went home. She was very affectionate at first then when she got comfy she was scared of everything and always hid. Took about 2 months maybe 3 before she started coming around. In that time I just let her do whatever. I didn't bothe her besides a couple of times. Now she is constantly following me around and calling on my lap or chest. Then sleeps in my bed.

When I was 16 my mom use to have this cat who would chill outside all day around the house. One night she left a window and he got out. She still blames me to this day saying I killed him or I purposely let him out to get eaten. We lived in a heavily forested rural area.
