A friend of mine is giving away her dog and I immediately responded saying I would gladly take him in. Meanwhile she goes behind my back and asks another family if they want it. The family is seeing the dog tomorrow while I have been turned away as a last resort.
Should it or should it not be the other way around, or am I just being a selfish prick?

It's her dog, you're being a prick.
Family comes first for most people, you're being selfish
What's your living situation like? I wouldn't let my dog live with someone who couldn't care for it to the standard I felt comfortable with.
Why the fuck would /an/ give a shit?

It's not a first come, first served situation. She should pick whoever she feels would provide better care for the dog.
I'm curious though, what do you mean behind your back? Did she absolutely promise you'd get the dog 100% and then tell you about the family?
>behind my back
A boyfriend? A chief? She owes you money?
