Yes. Keep it clean, clean it daily.
Don't cover it with anything. If it's deep enough to need stitches that's another story.
Watch out for infections. If there is puss, clean the puss.

Wash it with a bit of warm salty water each day. keep it clean and keep an eye on it. if infection comes, go to vet.

any superficial wound will heal on its own. we regularly visit farm animals (and some working dogs...) with huge wounds that look gross that are actually best treated medically, if not entirely then at least initially.

but it may take a long time and there are small risks of things like nasty infections, self-trauma etc if we do not close them surgically.
