What are some animals associated with rich or high-class people?
For some reason dogs like Saluki, Afghan Hounds, Standard Poodles, and Greyhounds are seen as upper class. I don't get it. I know Greyhounds and Poodles are just big dorks. Sphynx's are another breed I know of that fits the bill. They're so cute but pretty much impossible to find in shelters.
because they're expensive?
large dogs are generally high class because they cost more.
paying 30k for a showbreed large dog is nothing

Cheetahs in the gulf nations, swans, peacocks historically, red pandas for a moment in Paris

I never noticed their prices. You can adopt a Greyhound for under $200

Greyhounds aren't considered 'upperclass' here. Here, them and lurchers would be considered 'gypsy' dogs.

Where are you finding $30k showbred dogs? Seriously. Even the most ridiculously overpriced breed I've never seen over $5-6k for a puppy. My showbred Parson Russell Terrier cost about $600
The upper classes here mostly seem to go for working, outdoorsy breeds - labs, springer spaniels and working terriers. And besides dogs, horses.
- Hounds that were used for hunting with upper class in their private forests (e.g. Borzoi and imperial russians)
- Historically ridiculous Chinese lapdogs

Come to Australia, they are giving them away atm. Fully crate trained and ready to go. Free them from their racing hell.

They're all skinny and pointy, which may seem irrelevant until you realize that those are the traits emphasized in classy Art Deco sculptures and paintings. The Art Deco era coincides with the golden age of Hollywood cinema (1920-1940) when the visual styles associated with classiness were being cemented in our collective consciousness.
