I have a hypothesis why small dogs are yappy.
All dogs instinctually bark at things that are bigger than themselves and seem to pose a threat.
But for small dogs, there are simply a lot more things that're bigger than them, so they have more things to bark at.
Does this sound right?
>>
Maybe but was is worth making a new thread on /an/?
>>
Not all small dogs are yappy though.
That is the fault of the owner, it has nothing to do with the dogs size.

It's probably because a dog wants to protect it's family instinctively and maybe small dogs realize in some weird way, that they are physically useless. Hence the phrase: "Beware the dog that doesn't bark" because he's gonna fuck your shit up or die trying
>>
>>2175698
Small dogs are yappy because 99% of the time they have shittier/nonexistent training.
>>

Its because people dont take the time with small dogs to train and socialise them correctly, a pomeranian attacked my mastiff at the beach snarling and barking at him... imagine if my Mastiff did that to other dogs? He would be seized from me and put down by animal services.

>go on daily walks
>one of my routes has a house with a bunch of untrained little dogs running around
>they are usually running around in the front yard and street.
>one day one comes up and tries to bite me.
>give it a good kick.
>owners just look at me like I did something wrong
>neighbors are just laughing

I really hate people who don't train their dogs and just let them run around wherever they please. They're almost as bad as the people that treat their dog's like literal babies.
>>
I rather think that it's because it's probably in some way harder/more of a hassle to produce lots of sounds if you're taller than average in the same species, and desu applies to us as well, I noticed the taller people are, generally the more quiet, with manlets tending to be louder/more talkative. Being 1.90m myself I'm kinda calm already, and all the few guys exceeding 2m I know are even more quiet in general

I don't believe in hitting dogs but if some little fucker tries to bite me I will boot him over a fence.

Don't hold different breeds up to the same standards. The fact that the dog is a harmless size DOES make a difference in how you should treat it. Hold in your anger, don't let it turn you into an asshole.
>>
>>2177248
No.
Small dogs should be trained as equally well as larger breeds.
If they aren't trained and are aggressive little shits, they're worthy of being kicked in the face, just like any bigger dog. Just because their teeth and jaws are that much smaller doesn't make it any more tolerable.
>>
>>2177252
But Cesar Millan says that you should blame the owner, not the dog.
>>
>>2177253
Yes, it's the fault of the owner that I have to kick his dog because it's gnawing on my shoes and trying to bite my well behaved dog.
>>
>>2175698
what kind of dog is that?
>>
>>2178727
its a bear retard
>>
>>2179428

And some asshole is baiting his dog with it, notice the chain on the bear.
>>
>>2175698
uh I guess? doesn't sound wrong at least.

I'm pretty sure most dogs yap a lot, though. If the trainer chooses to discipline them, they wont yap as much. Sadly, the people who get shitty microshit breeds have this misconception that, because they're small, they don't need training, hence the "extra" barking.
>>
>>2179464
Kek, got 2 Westies (both around 9kg so small range yet not micro), and damn are terriers naturally stubborn. Need quite some time to educate
>>
>>2175698
People pick up small dogs. This gives them a false sense of superiority over other dogs. If you keep small dogs on the floor where they belong, they do not become yappy little shits.
>>
>>2179517
I pick up my large dog all the time and she often jumps on our knees when we're sitting. Still not yappy.
>>
>>2179436
yes thats clearly a bear

this is entirely true. i've seen well behaved, quiet small dogs. they acted this way because their owner trained them without regard to their size.

people don't do this with big dogs because a large dog that isn't trained is dangerous. but if a dog the size of a cat runs up to you barking and growling, you can just punt it out of the way, so it's not seen as much of a threat.

also, small dogs have a higher pitched bark because their voice box is smaller, the same reason children have higher pitched voices than adults (usually). the "yap" is just the sound they make.
