Hey /an/. I just got new gerbils yesterday. Any tips on how to care for them? All they eat are corn and nothing else, they don't drink much, and they don't use the wheel at all. How do I know if they're dying or just being cute?
Pic upside down. I don't know how to fix it.

>all they eat is corn and nothing else
Most small animals have food preferences like this. Nothing to worry about so long as a balanced diet is availible. They'll start eating other stuff eventually.
>they don't drink much
Nigga they're from the desert.
>They don't use the wheel at all
Also nothing to worry about. In my experience only hamsters and mice use the wheel. Take it out if they don't want it.
By the look of the wheel, I'm thinking you got one of those kaytee hamster kits. The wheels in those aren't even big enough for a syrian let alone a gerbil.
From what I've seen, gerbils would rather chew on a wheel than run on it.
Don't buy the food that has nuts and stuff. But just straight gerbil pellets (or oxbow gerbil/hamster food). Give seeds and such as a treat to help them bond with you.
At least you got two.
Also, they LOVE dust baths. Buy some critter dust or chinchilla dust. Put it in a bowl big enough for them to roll in and set it in the cage.
Finally, get some millet. They love millet (found in bird section of pet stores.
Get a bigger cage, or better yet, and aquarium (10 gallon is fine) and a wire cage topper. (Pic related without wheel). Put as much bedding in the aquarium part to allow them to borrow/make tunnels.
