Have any of you guys obtained a crow friend? If so, how? None of the guides I get on google work.
>>
The fuck are crow guides?
1. Yell
2. Throw food
4. Stand around
5. Repeat
6. Crows
>>
>>2165195
If it was that simple I think I'd have one by now.
>>
>>2165198
It is, you're either impatient or a horrible fuckup

Have you never had a friend before?

You can't use a guide, you have to make an honest connection.

Give him food or whatever you want but he needs to know that you aren't going to harm him and that is fun to be around you, scare the cats, make funny noises I don't know you have some sort of personality use it.

Best animal friend I had was Chilean rose hair tarantula, I'm in Chile and we just call them chicken spiders, almost step on her, I put my hand on the floor walked on me for a while and hide in my pocket, she stayed there until I got to my house.

Got her for more time than I had my dog, it was nice and friendly and scared the shit out of everyone that came to my room, like a friend should do.

They love being fed for one. Feeding a crow/raven once or twice guarantees you a spot on their nice guy list. They can recognize faces and form opinions, then tell others about their opinions. Its not uncommon for someone to feed one and have a flock drop by the next day. As for how they think of you, nice people will rarely receive gifts, but mostly attention and affection. Assholes tend to hear verbal warninga before being attacked. They have also been known to steal property and even vandalize against people that they have low opinions of.

They're just really very simple in nature, but can socialize and recognize different species which is very rare.

TL/DR: Give it food and don't be an prude.

What about rooks?

I fucking love rooks. See them every day on my way to work when it's fall/winter. They're adorable. Can you become bros with a rook?
>>
>>2165227
That was cute to read
Spiderbro are best bros
>>
>>2166570
how would crows even show affection
>>
>>2167615

Giving gifts is often a sign of sympathy since the crow would have an understanding on a human's generosity.
>>
>>2167423

Rooks share the same social behavior with other corvidas, including being one of the few species of animals to have reasoning and the ability to use tools.
>>
>>2167650
did it ever happen outside of that one little girl's story
>>
There's a raven couple that lives in my area every time they stop by I give them food
>>
>>2167676

Yeah. Had a friend of mine that was given a beer bottle cap because he would feed the same Raven BBQ almost every day.
>>
What's the best way to attract crows? I'm looking to have a few crow pals. I have a few squirrel friends and I got them by having food and water available to them at certain times of the day. I've interacted with them a few times. Enough for them to stand around and greet me when I come home from work
Maybe the food and water method doesn't work for crows? What do you guys normally do to attract them?
>>
Get yourself a crow call and learn their "language" (available via internet). Learn to make the "check this out" call. They'll start to scout. See food. Lather, rinse, repeat.
>>
My mom would yell out "Crows!!!!" and leave out peanuts so it became a pavlovian thing I guess.
>>
>>2168012
that's fucking adorable

crows and ravens give courting gifts so gift giving must not be too alien of a concept to them
>>
>>2169630
All I got for an animal gift yesterday was an inch long liver. Cute.
>>
>>2165191
I heard loud crowing the other day for a couple minutes, real close. I had thrown some buns out earlier.
I looked out the window and saw two massive ravens and one of them had a chunk of bread in his mouth dancing like a madman, the other one dancing also.
They were at least 15 inches tall. I hope to lure them back.
>>
>>2167650
idk man
My dog always brings me his toys and drops them at my feet when I first come home and he's pretty stupid.
>>
>>2169701

Except dogs just have a pack mentality and tend to take after their owners. I've yet to see a dog give something on a conditional basis.
>>
>>2165198
Crows tend to be VERY cautious. It can take months of regular feeding to get them to trust you.
>>
>>2165191
my grandpa "stole" a young crow out of it's nest when he was a teenager

he raised it and let it roam free as it learned to fly
It stayed around and found a partner. He allways gave (and still gives) them treats, like walnuts (which they drop on the street to be crushed by cars) and deadn f/t rodents or fish which didn't get eaten by his animals

We now still have a flock of crows around the house. I don't know how old crows can get, but I'm pretty sure the "original" one is dead by now. It would be about 60 years by now

Allways fun to see them eat and do really stupid things when they get bored, like hanging upside down or "dancing around"

Grandpa allways tells us that he does not regret stealing the little crow, as it brought him a lifetime of fun
>>
>>2165191
My uncle drugged a jackdaw with bread soaked in wine when he was younger. Apperently that worked
>>
I would but my mother shot them all because they would keep her awake when she was doing the night shift at the hospital.
Shes going after the magpies next but this time it is because she just does not like them.

It sucked about the crows but she had a point, she can fuck off about the magpies they do nothing, don't even make noise.
We have about 10 or so hanging about, usually comes around 5 am. I have never seen that many together, usually it is just two or three.
>>
>>2170784
Are the crows friendly towards your grandfather?
Crows can recognize faces and share information about people.
>>
do not feed the trolls or wildlife.
just mimic their behaviour, if they see u regularly they will communicate.

my crows look at me confused when random ppl showup to feed seagulls. but when the tide is out i point and they remember food comes from earth.

havent thought of any use for them other than watch dog. sometimes they caw at strangers for me. not really into making them a scavenger slave. they hate the local bald eagle, they dive bomb it and escort it away from their neighborhood.

If I dressed up in a crow costume, would they figure out that inside my human shell, I'm actually one of them and worthy of their trust?
>>
I tried feeding a seagull once, it clamped down on my finger along with the food with its large beak. It was pleased and wanted more after that. However I haven't been able to find another seagull like that, if I ever approach one with food it gives me a weird look then takes off.

What kind of food can I give crows?
>>
>>2174495
Lots of things. Nuts,meat,fries.

Go to your local pet/fish/bait shop and buy a shit ton of worms. The kind you use for fishing. Make sure they are still alive and the same species. Google what you need to keep them healthy and breeding.

It shouldn't be any more complicated than a giant rubber maid tub, the right kind of soil, the right kind of food (like the peels from potatoes, or grated carrots etc.) and a certain amount of misting with a water bottle once a day.

Then, every time you think you are going to encounter crows just get a little tupperware with some moist soil and air holes, fill it with a handful of worms, and there you go.

Food and time.

I worked on a road project in the yukon for a summer and watched a cat operator gain a following of ravens by feeding them bits of his lunch each day.

The ravens hang around people up there looking for easy food. I guess you would simply have to leave food out until they find it if you have none around.
