I have been having trouble finding an exact recipe for pet food online. A lot seem to have very different opinions on what exact recipe besides switching it up every once in a while.
Does anyone have any experience making their pets food?
I am making dog food for my two new Akita puppies because I have lost trust in brands since my last dog died from dog food with listeria and salmonella in it.
It would be great if anyone has a recipe where I don't need to buy a supplement.
This is what I have found browsing
Dog Meatloaf with Vegetables
1½ pounds lean ground beef
3 stalks celery (chopped)
2 carrots (grated)
1 apple (cored and diced)
2 eggs
2 slices white bread (torn into pieces)
1 cup regular rolled oats
1 cup wheat germ
6 ounce can of tomato paste
1 cup of cooked green beans
3 carrots (chopped)
1 stalk celery (cubed)

and Guidelines:
10 pounds of dog
2 oz. protein
4 oz. carb
(Or can be half and half, just more expensive)
1/2 oz. (minimum) vegetable and/or fruit
1/8 t salt substitute (this is important; it is potassium chloride)
1/2 adult multivitamin
1t fat
Bonemeal for calcium (I use 1 eggshell per day instead)

Thought tomato was toxic to dogs?
>>

The plant, but not the fruit. (Which is the same for humans, as well.)

Carrot isn't good for puppies kidneys, especially in such high amounts. Adult dogs should be ok tho. That recipe seems too complicated for me, I get a decent kibble and cook groun beef, peas, cauliflower and brocoli into it.

I'm sure its the plant and not the tomato itself. Tomato leaves can be bad for animals because it has different stuff then the fruit. I always make sure to never let my animals in my greenhouse for this exact reason

What is the bad part about carrots?
I wanted to put sweet potato in my dog food but heard the skins aren't great but found contradicting information

One of the vitamines (k maybe) I've forgotten now. But apparently it takes a lot of work in the kidneys to filter out and process correctly so it's not advisable for young and small dogs. My source is not an animal specialist but does have a bio-chem degree

I feed my pup sweet potato, also fed my mastiff grapes, had a westy that would search out and eat shit loads of chocolate. A lot of people say a lot of stuff is straight up toxic and will kill a dog, but I've been pretty lucky. People also say all dogs are lactose intolerant, but dogs fucking love cheese, and farm dogs have been given milk and cream long before now

you can feed them grapes and various other things without them dropping dead at your feet. but i would assume it isnt great for them. and what people say about it being straight up toxic is to ward off people who think giving your dog a chocolate bar for dessert everyday is a good idea

Spoilers: you won't find a good recipe online.

If you want to do home cooked food, get yourself booked in with a reputable dog nutritionist.

I agree. Do you have any recommendations by chance?
Also, does anyone now of any nutritionists that can do long distance? I don't seem to have any around me
