So I've been working as an electrician for 5 years now and my Dad who is a contractor and has been doing trade for 39 years is deciding to help me become a contractor just like him.
The problem is that the people who he has as employees and apprentices are white trash. These people will soon be working for me, and even if they aren't the same people trade jobs are full of white trash. I don't mean to belittle them, I'm simply saying that they are all from poor backgrounds while I am from a middle class upbringing.
How can I deal with them without upsetting them? They drink, smoke, and have little to come home to. Plenty of times I have to tell them to lay off the beer or cigarettes since we're working on a job right now and we shouldn't be doing that stuff on people's property. But they insist on continuing to do so and I have to argue with them. In the end we are still friends, but these guys find arguing and fighting as normal things.
They are very good at their jobs. It's just that they need a lot of close eye and I don't want to offend them considering I don't know what their lives are like.
