What does it mean when a GUY asks the so what are we question? After sleeping together and behaving pretty much like a couple for month?

This is a past issue not a current one. We knew neither if us were sleeping with other people. But we also couldnt actually date at the time. Now we dont live near eachother but we talk every day. Im also moving back and in a better position for a relationship.
