Just wondering if anyone has personal experience regarding pets and home owners associations. I know this is a shitty place to ask, but i'm having trouble finding a definitive answer elsewhere, so personal experience may help (or maybe (probably) not).
I own my condo (re: not renting; fully paid off), but there's an HOA whose rules state that no pets are allowed. Since I am the owner (well, really grandmother owns, but I "rent" from her, and she's okay with the dog), do I have a right to have a pet? Intuition tells me that the HOA has the last say, but I'm not sure if that only applies to renters. Thanks for any input
tl;dr - Own a condo and want to have my pet here, but homeowner's association ("no pets" rule) says no. Are they in the right or am I?

They've got the ability to fine your grandmother and, eventually, force you out of the property. Your best bet would be to make friends with the neighbors, find your way onto the board, and change the bylaws.
You have to follow the rules, that's part of what you agree to when you decided to live there. It doesn't matter that it's 'your' place, it's part of the conditions of buying the property. Since it's your grandmother's place, you're opening her up to legal action by having a dog there.

That's what I was thinking, but again, just wasn't sure if the act of actually owning the property made a difference. Thanks for the input.
It's kinda garbage too, because the HOA enforces rules differently based on how much they like the tenant (Not trying to complain/bitch about not being able to have my pet; this is actually the case). For some people it's with regards to pets, and for others, its various other rules. Dumb shit like hanging clothing outside, parking locations, etc. I don't know if it's legal, or if they're allowed to be selective with the rules like that. Seems to border on some weird type of discrimination
