I've been so hurt by someone I cared too much for.
I never knew I'd be subject to such pain, and now that I am, I don't know how to continue my life with it.
I gave myself the better half of the year to heal, but it didn't make the slightest difference.
how'd you spend that half year?

I spent it with it constantly on my mind

what happened? how did they hurt you? is it possible to talk to them?

From my experience with that kind of thing, it took approximately double the time I had emotionally invested in order to emotionally re-calibrate.
So a 4 year relationship would take about 8 years to recover from emotionally. Note that most people don't really recover between relationships, they simply rebound and mix their feelings about it up, which leads to a lot of really messed up scenarios where people both love and hate someone.
tl;dr: You'll be fine once enough time has passed to recalibrate your emotions.

My question is how do I life with it until then.
I am in what could only be described as a physical pain over the loss of them

The story itself isn't appropriate to repeat here, and I'm sure I'd only tell it with a bias anyway.
I have pretty much broken contact with them for the rest of my life now.
god someone PLEASE HELP

Dude, take a step back for a minute, you're being silly. I told you, it takes time. The only other advice is to live your life like normal and don't just sit there hung up out of gear like you don't know how to function or you'll get in a rut.
