So how do you even do laundry properly? How do you separate them so that the colors don't affect each other? How do you know what clothing items to separate them all into? Like I have a white shirt with a black pocket, where would I put that into?

If I sorted into lights, darks, and whites, and then sorted that into tees, shirts, pants, towels, and running shorts and socks then won't I have a dozen loads of laundry and won't laundry take forever?

Also how often am I supposed to wash things like towels and bed sheets? How often do you do laundry for specific items?

I'll try to give some advice and help, or at least tell you how I do laundry:
- Do laundry every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks or when there is enough dirty clothes etc. so that it is worth doing it.
- Separate into 4 "main" laundry categories. You sort by temperature mostly and there are 2 main cycles.
dark 60 °C
white 60
dark 30/40
white 30/40
- You could add dark with white but I wouldn't recommend doing it. Only if you need some clean laundry promptly and there is very few of one sort.
- Socks go with towels.
- Tees, pants, running shorts go together (you can add shirts here as well or do separate cycle)
- I always go with the washing cycles that take the longest. These usually do not need as much energy and water as the quick ones.
- Every now and then do a highest C° washing cycle with your towels.
- Towels to dry myself after showering I use a couple of times before putting them into the laundry. THere is no exact time when to get them to the laundry.
- Bed sheets every 2 weeks? 3 weeks? Depends on where you live and how much you sweat at night. I'm not sure here, I don't do it as regularly.

I'm just a dude, and I've never separated my laundry per color. All my clothes are fine. Honest.

I think they only bleed into each other if you use bleach?

So you can put tees and pants (like chinos and jeans) together? You only separate them by color?

Whites=hot water.
All other colours=cold water.
On clothes you can find a small white tab that also has instructions to wash.
