How do I tell my parents that I'm too depressed to continue

How do I tell my parents that I'm too depressed to continue at college?

I've been struggling with depression for years and it's got to the point where it's really debilitating to my life. I'm not in a state to properly study, I drag myself through each day trying to do enough to not fail anything. Then I go home, nibble on whatever food I have, and spend a couple hours browsing 4chan / watching movies / crying until the sleep medicine kicks in. I'm going to have a full on breakdown if I continue like this.

I'm worried about tell my parents because they have high expectations of me, both having masters degrees, and I don't know if this is something they'd accept. I don't have that many independent resources and in my current state if they decided to stop supporting me I'd probably end up dead in a month. So I'm really worried about how I explain my current situation to them.

I've already tried a bunch of self-help things, forcing myself to socialize, exercising, etc. None of it helped, and I just keep getting worse. I'm still a ball of angst, loneliness and self hatred. I need actual help / real lifestyle changes I guess.

One last thing, I don't want to quit forever, just until I sort myself out. Then I'll finish my degree and be a productive member of society. I could probably do some online courses or something too, so I wouldn't have to entirely drop out.

Sorry if this post is dumb. I had an especially bad day and I'm not feeling very cognizant right now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
