I need some input /adv/
>Be me
>27/m
>used to be a serious pothead
>never took education seriously
>never went to college
>left behind by peers and it destroyed my social life
>fast forward through years of depression doing shitty jobs to get by
>get a job surveying and really love it
I feel like I'm finally crawling my way out of this pit.
I want to further my education now and get into civil engineering. It's related to my job now so I think I'll really enjoy it.
My question is what can I expect going back to school at a later age and is it realistic to succeed with so much stacked against me?
There's nothing stacked against you but your own thoughts

Of course it's realistic.
Go ahead and do it.
You'll face a lot of self doubt. You must learn to work through it.

College isn't just for 18 year olds any more.
I guarantee that any university you choose will have at least 25-30% undergrads your age or older.
There's more 30 year Olds in college now than ever. Do it.
If you wanted, you could start with a few "continuing education" classes--most universities have some program with these. They mainly comprise people in their late 20s and 30s, even some old people. Plus, they're mostly at night or on the weekend so you could just take a course or two while continuing your job.
Though, as everyone else has said, there's no real problem with starting undergrad at your age.
OP here, I guess I know what I have to do. I appreciate the the encouragement. Heck, I might even get to start dating again.
