I took a job in a remote area of a country I don't speak the language of because I was desperate for money but now the loneliness is killing me. I am going insane without speaking to people in English. I've gone weeks without even talking to anyone.

What would you advise I do? I probably won't be monitoring the thread that often as I only have internet sporadically in my living quarters.

The job is a machine maintenance and janitorial position for a research center in Madagascar. I'm the only one at the center currently and I'll be alone here for another 4 months.

is there any thing in your contract that would hurt you if you quit early? thats pretty insane.

you can invest in a cell phone / unlimited data / portable internet and try talking to people online more.

I don't know honestly.

I have a land line phone that I use to call tech support when things stop working right but I don't think I'm allowed to use the phone for many personal calls since it's so expensive to call anywhere out of the country.

Cell service is horrible here and the infrastructure is shit. I'm essentially right on the edge of the rainforest and many of the surrounding areas don't even have electricity. My internet and electricity go in and out as is. The internet is decently stable during the day however in the living quarters.

not sure what else you can do man. be on the internet and use that time to have vocal conversations. try discord where you can use your mic in random groups you find on 4chan and such.
