To answer the question about protection, no we didn't protect ourselves at all. She's been off birth control for about a month because she hates swallowing pills. I suffered from birth control failure at 17, was on the pill but still managed to get pregnant. My boyfriend went with me and made sure I was taken care during the healing process. The clinic adjusted the type of birth control I was on as well. At my appointment they didn't make me listen to the heartbeat or see the ultrasound if I didn't want to. That was all 10 years ago so I don't know how things have changed since then.

Everyone reacts differently. I felt relieved at the time since I didn't have the means to raise a baby and my family always made it very clear if I got pregnant my home would be the streets. Now I occasionally get lingering pangs of regret, I married my boyfriend at the time and we have a happy life with one toddler and another on the way - seeing how much I love them is what cases these feelings.

I would highly recommend using two forms of birth control going forward. So many things can effect hormonal birth controls, I took the philosophy going forward until we were ready.
