They're fairly cheap and you can say you keep personal stuff in it if they ask, chances are they won't notice or care, especially if you put that box into something else.

Metal tool box, padlock, chuck it at the bottom of a pile of your stuff. They'll never know.

I personally have an old PC that I gutted and use as a safe. Thing is sitting in a corner in my wardrobe - no family member will ever think to look inside it.

This of course relies on your family all being techlets - which most families are.

I also had an old speaker that came apart that I used for the same purpose.

Apart from that, I sometimes just keep things in pouches in my backpack, or even jacket. I live with conservative religious parents and I've had condoms in my jacket for years. Never been found out. No one looks into other people's jackets.

If your family will go through it, in the worst case scenario you will have to ask your mom to return it back.
