I agree with this. I think most people are born with an instinctive desire to be with someone. The people who you see seemingly getting by fine alone have been severely hurt in the past, in which case it's usually temporary, or the one that they really got attached to passed away.

great question OP. I have a similar question. One of my coworkers/friends is a manwhore and sleeps with different people throughout the week. It's disgusting, especially when he mentions how all the good girls are nowhere to be found.

Personalities are pretty much set in stone by toddler ages. If your genetically or environmentally predisposed to being shy and lacking confidence then you're basically doomed to be single and lonely for most of your life, unless you're extremely attractive and women come up to you.

Im a psychologist. The brain is malleable (look up neuroplasticity) and will pretty much grow and change constantly to suit what your daily activities are.

Its true its developing extremely quickly in the first 5 years, and there are certain things like language and some basic skills that are imperative in that time, but it continues to grow and develop quickly until youre 25. Even after that it can change.

When it comes to changing personality, though, its going to stay the same day to day without drastic intervention. Cognitive exercise, exposure, and even some medications can do a lot over time. Also new social circles. Its even harder to change yourself around the same people youve known forever. People stick to their roles.

Sure you can make minor adjustments, but you can't go from being a shy person to being an extroverted person if you're already extremely set in your ways.

Also, just look at the difference between black men and asian men. Black men consistently are extremely extroverted and see no shame in approaching random women. Asian men are consistently introverted and afraid to approach or show interest in women at all. There's clearly a huge genetic influence on ability to talk to girls.
