how much of a crutch is mental illness in terms of getting into a decent school? will i be less likely to be admitted if i offhandedly mention that my bpd or autism has been a challenge? i'm not going to make this the focus on my application but i'm just trying to see how far i can get with it as someone who never tried in school. i want to apply to school in-state that has a japanese exchange program to see if i truly enjoy it there, but, they all seem pretty tough to get into.
Unless you've actually accomplished something with your life despite having a mental illness, you're just going to look like you're asking for pity points.

>does making it through school count?
Any moron can make it through high school. Unless you got exceptionally high grades while being well-rounded in terms of extracurriculars, you don't have a chance.
