>Early software engineering major
>Trying to lean towards augmented and virtual reality
>Have taken intro to programming c++
>Taking intermediate programming fall
>Taking... Something in spring semester
>Still maybe 3-4 years left in school (mostly because of math)
>Not working at the moment (financial aid)
>Trying to replace unproductive fun habits like video games and movies with computer related activities and fun learning
It won't be nearly as profitable at first but I want to try to start working as a programmer by next summer to help myself through school
This seems better than the alternative of getting a minimum wage job in a field completely unrelated to what I want to be doing in the long term even if I'm making dirt money at first
>What I need advice on
General advice and tips are welcomed
Should I try to do more 'fun' projects that aren't class related?
During winter break, will it be better for me to start looking into Android app making, or windows apps with a GUI, or is it better to study something more along the lines of algorithms and logic?
Any tips is much appreciated
Yeah learn about everything even things that you won't take in collage
Since you have taken c++ start next with pop tuning c# then java
Try to find good courses on youtube, udemy and Linda.
Tip: you can access Linda for free tuning your city library card
Getting a min wage job is not a bad idea and will improve your skill with managers

Thanks for the response
What's Linda?
I worked in construction before going back to school, I have team work experience, team leading, and manager experience already - it's the technical stuff that I fall short on right now, leadership is probably my strength
