Unless you're facing more than a fine, don't bother with a lawyer. It's generally worth showing up to court, particularly if this is your first offense, just to throw yourself at the mercy of the judge. It often saves you a few bucks, and can potentially keep your insurance rates down.

It's up to you though if the time and hassle is worth it to you though. Like I personally won't go to court for anything less than $200 because my time is worth more than that.
