So I got a letter in the mail from a old job I had about 3 years ago. It essentially said there was a check that I may have never picked up and that if I didn't have record of receiving it that I could get one sent to me.
I don't have any record of getting it since my bank statements only go back 180 days.Whether I actually got it or not is a mystery to me.
My question is, if I file that I didn't receive it and it turns out I did could I get in trouble?
How much are we talking? If you're not desperate for that money I'd explain the situation to them and try if you can figure it out together. If it were to later turn out you lied it means there is a way to determine this now.

I'm not desperate for money, but it's a check for $450 and it wouldn't hurt.
