Is volunteering a valid alternative to part time work while in university? I've been volunteering weekly at a local museum for the past year now, and I'm coming up to the final year of my undergraduate history course. Once I'm thrown into the real world would my volunteering experience have a similar amount of weight to genuine part time work experience?
Yeah I think so. Working is going to be harder than volunteering though.

no, its bullshit. Don't encourage employers to be scummy by accepting unpaid positions.

the experience has the same weight f you don't need the money. if you volunteer at a food pantry sometimes they'll let you have some of the food as "payment" though.
Bottom line is volunteering only helps on a resume
