>be me, have unpopular political opinion
>often alienated because of it
>know not to say anything most of the time, but I do love debating politics
>sometimes can't take it, watching people echo each other's opinions as "discussion" and exaggerating more and more
How do I avoid conflict as much as possible? If someone singles me out and asks me what I think, should I just play dumb or lie?

As an example: I was once in a group of people and the discussion came to politics. I was defending Trump but fairly neutrally, so it still seemed ambiguous. But it became obvious that I didn't hate him/was against him, so a girl asked me repeatedly if I voted for him. I said something along the lines of "I did a lot of research to arrive where I did now (didn't say yes or no). She left the room on account of being so offended and everyone had to calm her down to come back.
