The trick is to learn to sell yourself. Without outright lying (as it would probably make it worse for you during the interview), you have to try to focus on what you're good at, and embellish it as hard as you can.
Also, you really need to network. I was really bad at interacting with people, but I became halfway decent by brute force because you NEED people to know about you. I can't stress how important this is, you need to get acquainted with people in your sector so they'll tell you about job opportunities, recommend you to their colleagues and all of that.
