Is wasting literally an entire year of your life a death blow?
I took a 'gap year' before a bachelor, and long story short: Shit did not go as planned.
Luckily my damage control saved me.
I am now back to square 0. I got the same amount of money saved as before the year, the same friends (for the most part), and same relationship. It's literally like 365 days just said *poof*.
It's weirding me the fuck out, and I feel horrible about wasting this year that was supposed to be used for either saving up a lot or personal development. I experienced neither. I feel stunted and behind the curve because of this.
What do you mean? How did you waste it? And if you were going to waste a year of your life, 18-19 isn't exactly the worst year to waste.

Well my plan for the year was to continue on my own semi-successful ebiz, and land a full time job to fund it's growth (Mentally I wanted a 'baseline' for money as a safeguard).
First month was spent moving out of home.
Then I kept working a part-time job for a bit since I couldn't go full time. I spent almost all my money on outsourcing / paid ads online, and it grew really well, I made bank within a few months, quit my job, actually.
Then various things happened, business tanked, I lost my work ethic, relationship went to shit, and I slipped into this cucoon of just living in my apartment and never leaving, or working.
I lived on a diet of microwave food, talked with no one, never showered, never built any skills or indulged interests. I spent 8 months living on the money I made alone.
Now I am admitting defeat, moving, and enrolling, with just enough money to make it possible.
So yeah thats how I wasted it, for the most part.

Not a waste, anon. You did something that worked, that was a success. Sure it went down, but you saw how stuff works in the real life, made your own money, your own biz. You'll be more knowledgeable than a lot of people who didn't take gap years to give their own ideas a shot.

you had a choice of doing nothing and having regret, or taking the high risk high reward and gaining experience. I don't think that is a waste
It's not necessarily a deathblow, no
