nothing wrong with petroleum jelly for masturbation but it's not recommended for anything internal. I really recommend just getting a tube of walmart brand lube, it's like $2-4 and you can go through the self checkout.

Hot shower works fine.
Not the most soluble in water, but warm water and soap works fine.

Alternatively, it dissolves readily in methylene chloride, but that burns a little on the skin. Also soluble in chloroform, benzene, and diethyl either, but I don't have experience with those, could look up the SDS for each.
