My brother was an ir major, I asked him and he said just do political science at an affordable state school, almost exactly the same major.

Perhaps she can visit an air force/navy recruiter with you? A lot of them are experts at persuasion and calming down parents.

It's just my dad and brother both ended up disabled from their service. I have considered working with customs and border protections as a field officer and she doesn't seem too upset with that idea.
