Hi /adv/, I have pretty long hair and I'm afraid I'm not washing it properly. It's always rough and tangly instead of soft and fluffy like I want it to be. Everyone always says I'm probably not washing the shampoo from my hair properly, even though I try my best to get it out. At this rate, I'll probably be balding in a couple of years. Any tips? I feel like such a failure for not even being able to wash my hair properly.

how can you not know how to wash your hair? Are you a child or retarded?

Retarded, yeah.

Long hair needs both shampoo and conditioner. Get a harsh clarifying shampoo, something for people with oily hair. Wash your hair twice, the entire hair. That should get rid of the gunk buildup.
Then use conditioner on the parts that aren't touching the scalp. Rinse thoroughly, a minute at least.
I have to do this once in a while too because shampoo and other products can build up on your hair and make it all turn sticky. Without conditioner it gets very dry and brittle and will break off when you comb or brush it once it's past your shoulders.
You need more than just shampoo mate, most people like me use multiple products to get our desired results.
washing involves getting the hair wet first; apply shampoo, rub in vigorously. wash with water. apply conditioner and wash
Girl with long locks. The less you do the better, but not too little.
Since it seems you have an oily scalp, buy a shampoo for that at first (but don't use it longer than a week). Wash it twice, get out excess oil. Apply a very small (I only use about the size of a quarter and my hair reaches my waist and is thick) amount of conditioner and rinse it out thoroughly. After a couple of uses of this oily scalp shampoo switch to a normal one.
Don't blow dry, let it air dry. Only blow dry when you're in a hurry, otherwise periodically comb til it is dry.
Don't wash your hair every day. Every other day, maybe 2 days if you don't exercise or have a physically straining profession. You do want a tad of natural oil.
I only use hair spray maybe 3 times a year for really special occasions. If I am leaving my hair mostly down I will sometimes comb some anti-frizz cream in my hair. Again, not often.
Every 3 months I get a trim.
