Would it be worth going through an alternative teaching certificate program in a state that doesn't pay teachers well?

I graduated 8 months ago with a degree in film/media and a minor in French. I guess my work sucks because every time I have an employer interested in me, I show them my reel and they stop contacting me.

I got approved to seek an alternative teaching certificate, but with the EXTRA college classes, processing fees, background checks, and tests, it will cost me well over $6000. Is that worth it? Teachers in my state start out at 30k. Plus I have a DUI on my record, would a school district even want me with that?

What state? How much are you currently making now? Have you researched that if you got the alternative teaching certificate would it be transferable state to state?

If the investment will still get you into a job that pays more then your current income its not a bad idea, and if it's transferable then once you get a few years under your belt you can move to a place that pays better.

Honestly, before even going that route I'd try doing some more work on your demo reel. Touch it up a bit and try a bit more before throwing in the towel completely.
