So skip the subterfuge and do it in an uncomplicated way.
Walk up to her all smiley and say "Hi, you're Dave's sister aren't you?" And either she isn't or she is. Take it from there. Apologize for your mistake and facepalm and crack a joke and walk away. Next time say "Hi sister" and smile.
