Hey there guys. I just need some advice on a billion questions I have. I cannot decide on whether to join the Army or the Navy and which job to get in either branch. The vast amount of things I want to do is crippling my decision making. I want to be in an intel agent (foreign languages, firearms, the like). The reasons I’m having trouble choosing a branch are as follows:
ARMY
>wider field of jobs
>more opportunities for OP40/Airborne/Ranger/75th Regiment/Green Berets
>much more RESPECTABLE uniform
>not stuck on a ship for months on end
NAVY
>get to travel way more (depending on MOS/RATE but most likely)
>natural love of the water
>safer if I somehow make a family in my life
>more technical/job opportunities on the civilian world
>better treatment compared to the Army
I still don’t know if I would make this a 20-year career or just 1 enlistment. I feel like I’m planning this WAY too far ahead now that I’m typing it out. This leads me to deal with another problem of choosing a rate/MOS to get a job in the civilian world or do something I would enjoy. I have an image in my head of what I want to become no matter how cheesy. I truly believe anything is possible. Its almost like a James Bond deal. I know computer systems/networking/exploitation inside and out but also an operator thing going on. I would also like to be a translator and have some psychop work under my belt. I know all this sounds cheesy but I don’t care. I just need a nudge in the right direction to help make a decision. The jobs I’ve been currently looking at were as follows:
ARMY
>35q Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist
>35g Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst
>35m Human Intelligence Collector
>37f Psychological Operations Specialist
>12y Geospatial Engineer
>17c Cyber Operations Specialist

everyone I know in the Navy is miserable, everyone I know in the Army has PTSD.

In the Marines, you sleep in the dirt.
In the Army, you sleep in a tent.
In the Navy, you sleep on a ship.
In the Air Force, you sleep in a hotel.
As for your career focus, anything that pays well, is in-demand right now, and growing. Go to bls.gov and check out their OOH (Occupation Outlook Handbook)
I would go with the navy simply because that was my original plan when I graduated high school before I got side tracked. Whatever you do, get a position that'll teach you a tangible skill that you can use in the real world to get a job. Shit's bad out there bro.
I'd definitely recommend Coast Guard, they're the only branch that genuinely helps Americans.

National Guard helps out during floods, too. Enjoy carrying all those sand bags, though.

ng downsides: part time, it can be federalized (one weekend a month my ass)
better going active if you really want the military experience. but todays military is just a tool of the corporate elite who are really running things. you wont be fighting for our freedumb unless we are invaded.
