I've been dreading bedtime lately. It's just me closing my eyes for an hour, hoping my body will finally get the hint and go into rest mode so it's not pissed the next day.
I'm trying to wake up around 8, and I have to go to bed an hour earlier than so should to compensate. Why is falling asleep so damm difficult? What do you guys do in situations like this that help?

Do you stare at a screen until you hop into bed?

The blue light keeps you awake. Look up F.lux. It makes your screen orangey at night. I thought it was a meme but it really helps me get properly sleepy at night.

I generally read about 30 min before I get to bed. My phone has a blue light filter on its highest setting which still doesn't seem to be helping for some reason

You're obviously not tired enough
Do more exhausting things

Chronic insomniac here.
My trick is to listen to music using sleep headphones. Keeps me from getting too riled up from frustration or anxiety, which in turn helps me relax and actually sleep.

Also look up "sleep hygeine", it helps.

Iktf, I often do some stretching before bed. 3-4 stretches for the legs, then 3'4 stretches for the upper body, 30-40 seconds per stretch, it takes about 10-15 minutes. Feels good lying in bed feeling your muscles relaxed as fuck and getting that feeling like sinking into the bed and pillow because of it. Helps a lot with shortening the time it takes to sleep

Go to Walmart or a pharmacy and buy melatonin. Either liquid form, under the tongue, or chewable. Something like 10mg and take it like 10 minutes before bed time or 20 since you said you read before bed.
>>
I just go nocturnal style or force myself to stay awake until the next normal time for sleeping, and at that point it's ez to fall asleep. Not healthy, but this works.
