Hey guys so my dad gets this really weird feeling sometimes where he feels very weak, detached and disconnected and he can sometimes smell strange scents that aren't actually there. It only lasts for a few seconds but he says it's a horrible feeling that's disorienting, and it's been happening about once a week ever since he got an allergy injection 3 years ago. He is 53 and I would seriously appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance
Sounds a little like transient ischemic attack, but could be several things. Does you dad take any regular medications? How's his health otherwise? Any physical numbness? Facial drooping?
Once a week is a lot, has he spoken to a doctor about this already?

He does not take any medication, his face is slightly droopy. He has been to the doctors before but they were unable to identify it...

Meant to say slightly droopy only when really feeling it
It could be so many things there is no way to figure it out on here. It could be purely mental, or brought on by something physical or something to do with the brain. I've felt like that before in my life, but never have facial drooping. I think the word you he may be looking for is the feeling of disassociation. Anyway I'd keep going to doctors and see if I could figure it out. The worse thing he can do is worry about it. Anxiety worsens the feeling of disassociation. The more he relaxes the better he will feel. I know it's hard but that's the best thing he can do. Best of luck OP.

This. Definitely sounds like a transient ischemic attack.
So have i, op if you find out whats wrong let me know

Definitely a TIA. It baffles me that a doctor couldn't identify that.
Go and get that treated ASAP. It is indicative of greater health problems. Your father is quite literally having a small stroke every time this happens.
Do not fuck around with this any longer. This is a genuine health emergency.

these guys are right, TIA/mini-strokes, get to a different doctor ASAP, tomorrow if possible, go to urgent care maybe

Will do bud
I will make sure he goes to see a doctor asap, he just went to work so he seems to be feeling a little better at least. I'll keep you guys updated, and thank you to everyone, you guys are potential life savers!

You should very much stress how important it is that he does this ASAP. In of themselves they're not very dangerous, but your dad is probably one good jostle away from a stroke or an embolism. I know he's unlikely to skip work because a stranger in the internet said so, but still.
Also, I just won a $37k settlement the other day because an older gentleman had a foreseeable medical emergency, blacked out, and drove his car into me. Speaking both as a medical professional, and as a victim of someone's neglect to take their medical condition seriously, please don't wait longer than is absolutely necessary.

He's coming home for lunch in 1 hour so I'll tell him to get his ass to the doctors asap, even if he doesn't think it's that serious I rather be safe than sorry
>>18585567
Be insistent. You have no idea how lucky he has been until now.

We are scheduling for an appointment asap, and this has been going on for 3 years (although he said it was at its worst yesterday)

Make sure to highlight the facial drooping. Disorientation can be a lot of different things, but that symptom in particular is unique to what we described.
Good luck and take care, friend.
