So after years no car, finally got a car and my license. My question is regarding speed limits.
In my area, residential is usually 25, and highway is 45.
Doing under 25 is easy with red lights, etc.
On the highway, I usually go 45 on the dot. For me, speeding is going 55.
Then I have people fly by me, changing lanes without signaling, doing probably 70.
I dont like to speed because i leave early enough to never be late for work, and i recognize that im not dying to get home 10 minutes sooner.
Is this normal to go this fast? Or are these people that will get pulled over sooner then later?

Generally speaking, you want to keep pace with the general flow of traffic, and drive as fast as you can safely keep yourself under control. If you're on an open, straight highway, 70-90 mph is acceptable. But if you're weaving through traffic and taking turns way too fast, you're driving like an asshole.
You're a new driver so you should do whatever feels safe & comfortable. But sometimes, it's actually not good to drive at/below the written speed limit if you're going slower than everyone else. Go with the flow.

In my state it's generally 10mph over is the standard speed. So everyone just goes 65 here.
I generally go 70 since it's a straightaway with minimal curves.
