Starting to look into skating equipment
Should I custom build or get a built in one at my local skate shop?

Neither. Best case scenario: you have a passing fancy for a couple of years, and sink way more money than you need to in it. Worst case scenario, you break something or get into the "culture" and never grow up.

Mmm id say build one if it's cheaper and you really like it or buy it from a store if you want to or can
What state do you live in anon? Have you tried it before? Do you have friends that do it? Is there a skatepark next to you?
Make sure to feel the board for its weight before you buy one. Some people like light and versatile some people like long heavy boards.

I don't think this is accurate.

Go to a skate shop
>$50-60 for brand name deck can prolly get a generic for $30 same quality at the shop
>$40-50 for decent trucks
>$30 for wheels
>$15 for some reds bearings
Fuck this shit was a lot cheaper when I skated. You could build a complete board for like $80-100

I luckily live less then a block away from a skate park but I need to go out of town to get to a Skate shop. I have friends who also have been starting to skate, and I haven't tried it before.

I think you should
Maybe buy a used board just to get into it or something I'm not sure. 100 for a board is quite steep and you have to put it together maybe try practicing on your friends board? I mean you have a skatepark near you I'd do it it'll keep you healthy.
