I do this all the time.

Even my girlfriend knows that it's normal for me to just not respond for a couple of hours to a text--purely because I just was doing something else and didn't notice I got a message, or I just forgot my phone somewhere else.

I get that at your age, you're kind of freaking out and it's hard to help. I was spastic as fuck when I was 20 too. I remember the "Oh shit! When's she going to respond back! it feels like my hearts going to explode from anxiety" days where you felt like every second was an eternity...

But the truth is, as you get older and as more self-confidence kicks in, it's almost like your internal clock slows down and you stop feeling like everything is the end of the world. You stop feeling like you're living every single minute of every single hour, one second at a time. Instead, it's more like minutes go by, or hours, or days, because you realize that life should be taken at a pace where you can actually enjoy the flow of things and not freak out.

Take a gigantic deep breath, relax, go do something productive. He'll get back to you when he gets back to you.

And if he's interested: Awesome, take things one step a time.

If he's not: Too bad. But that will be 90% of all people you ever meet, and you're going to date a lot more people who you inevitably don't work out with--but that's ok because each one of those failures is a chance to learn something new about either what it is that you want, or what it is you need to improve on.
